Happy Friday everyone! I have officially completed my first week of my internship and have already learned so much!
So yesterday when I said that I had finally completed cutting the leather scales, I lied. Today, I started another leather hide full of scales that I traced and began cutting! I suppose it makes sense though seeing that the garment being made is probably going to require a few hundred scales; twenty per row and probably near 20 rows! It is safe to say that this piece is going to be a show stopper:)
To finish off my post today, I thought I would do a little fun fact since it is Friday and all! While working with materials this afternoon, I learned a great way from the designer I am interning for on how to distinguish knits from wovens. I have pictured below first knits and then wovens below that. When shopping, our knits are going to be those that stretch in at least 4 but sometimes 8 directions (vertical, horizontal, and diagonally). The treads are interlocked together in figure eights and therefore are able to move in those directions. These can be anything form fitting such as cottons. The wovens do not move like this. In fact, they do not stretch vertically or horizontally; they will have some movement diagonally, however. Examples of wovens would be structured pieces such as blazers or dress pants.
