Into my project today, I started with something that looked like this:
These are all of the pieces cut and ready to transform into a three-quarter sleeve, knee length, boat neck t-shirt dress. At this point, most of the "hard stuff" is behind us because measures and dimensions have been established.
However, today I do not want to focus so much on how the garment is made and instead want to address why. Obviously the reason we wear clothes is for warmth and coverage. But in today's world especially, clothing is a gateway for us to express ourselves as well as identify with others.
Most of the time, we want clothing to be flattering as well as comfortable depending on the occasion. I wanted to be able to wear this garment in particular for various circumstances. I had to make some modifications is order for it to be aesthetically pleasing on my body type. For one thing, I am 5'2" so a dress at my knee and below is going to make me appear shorter because of proportions. I usually try to go right above my knee in lengths of skirts and dresses, unless doing a maxi (which is rare because they are always EXTREMELY long!).
Additionally, I chose the neutral tones of gray which can also be worn in multiple ways as well. A person could add pops of color with accessories for example.
By the end of my work session today, my new dress was complete and functional for all of the reasons I wanted!
It could be worn for formal wear (throw your hair up, wear some heals and classy earrings)...
Business wear (add a blazer)...
And of course going out after a day on the job:)
