Christopher
gave me some assignments to do on my own the next few days as we have a short
recess from the studio due to the 4th of July holiday. I must research, sketch and do material
sourcing. Yesterday I finished a dress
that was a gray, boat neck, three-quarter sleeve, and knee length garment. Just as we have in the previous sweater
garments, we are going to continue off of this garment to make modifications
but this time into a maxi dress. This is
great for me because a lot of the time finding a maxi dress that fits a 5’2”
chick is like trying to find a needle in the haystack! Very rare!
This time I can make my own measurements that specifically fit my
vertically challenged body. I can see
there being a great benefit to this career path already. For one thing, I do not have to rely on
someone else to alter my clothing. I can
do it myself. Or the next better yet,
make it!
Anyways,
today I worked on the research segment of my assignment; which is actually kind
of a fun part! In my Apparel
Merchandising major, this work would be found within the Trending and Buying
course. Several jobs within fashion
require this kind of research to be done in order to assess the customer
market. Trends are found months in
advance; sometimes 1-2 years, colors included.
However, right now, I am more focused on the “current trend” but adding
a bit of my own flare. I searched online
as well as in stores for ideas and things that caught my attention. I made a little inspiration board of my
findings. I can take these ideas and
transform them into my own creativity in my sketching process.
Here is a small sampling of the things I am loving:
